PHP (PHP Hypertext Preprocessor) is a programming language that allows applications 

to produce something that is dynamic and interact with the database.

Here is a scheme that allows an application to the database using PHP.

 Once the web server user finds the requested file (sesuatu.php), the file is submitted to the PHP engine for processing. If PHP detects the interaction with the database, then PHP will perform the request on the database server and database server results from further processing. After all of the contents of the file is processed, then the result (in the form of HTML code sustu) submitted to the web server. Furthermore, the web server sends HTML code to the user.
